Senior Systems Engineer

Are you ready to take the lead in securing and optimizing IT and operational technology environments? We are seeking a skilled Senior Systems Engineer to join our small, dynamic IT team in Amsterdam.

About the Role

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will ensure the stability, integrity, and efficiency of our IT infrastructure, with a strong focus on security and operational technology (OT). You will collaborate closely with Operations and OT teams, manage Windows-based environments, and oversee cloud services such as Microsoft 365, Azure, and Intune. Occasional offshore travel is part of the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Systems & Platform Management:

  • Manage and optimize Windows environments, Microsoft 365/Entra ID, Intune/Endpoint Manager, and Azure services

  • Automate tasks and deployments using PowerShell

  • Oversee software deployments and device compliance

  • Ensure system connectivity and interoperability

• Security & Identity Management:

  • Implement and maintain security measures (Conditional Access, MFA, hardening, patching, IAM)

  • Administer Zscaler (ZIA/ZPA) for secure internet and private access

  • Conduct server and security audits, backup procedures, and disaster recovery

• OT System Engineering & Security:

  • Collaborate with Operations/OT to optimize and secure industrial environments

  • Manage OT asset inventory, vulnerability management, and risk reporting

  • Improve network segmentation, secure remote access, and change control in line with IEC 62443 principles

• Support & Collaboration:

  • Provide third-line support and incident coordination

  • Mentor junior IT staff

  • Participate in on-call/standby rotations

• Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead lifecycle upgrades, migrations, and security initiatives

  • Maintain documentation and share knowledge within the team

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience managing Windows-based environments, M365/Entra ID, Intune, Azure, and Zscaler

• PowerShell scripting and automation skills

• Hands-on experience with IAM and security best practices

• Experience with OT industrial environments

• Willingness to travel offshore occasionally

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

• Ability to work collaboratively in a small, multi-disciplinary team

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent

• Certifications in Microsoft (e.g., AZ-104, MS-102), Zscaler, ITIL, or similar are a plus

• Proficiency in Dutch, both spoken and written, is required
